446 - AS IV.75. Design for an unidentified monument, drawn by Hawksmoor. St George and the dragon are raised on a pedestal inscribed: G V Y P Q.G.W. HE R. St George holds a staff in one hand a sword in the other. The pedestal is flanked by a seated captive (a matching captive figure is very loosly sketched to the R). Brown ink and grey wash over pencil sketching. 516 x 359 mm. Watermark: Strasbourg lily WR.

Note to 446: The loose draughtsmanship is datable to the 1690s (compare Downes 1988, no. 183).
